A shared reference for the work you teach
Build a program’s case library around its specialties, surgeons, and procedures. Use fundamentals, instrument flashcards, scenario questions, and board prep to give learners a consistent place to prepare between teaching sessions.
Make progress useful to the preceptor
Review case proficiency and recorded practice across cases, quizzes, flashcards, and board prep. Cohort views help educators identify where to focus the next discussion or supervised practice session.
Recorded practice is a learning signal. It does not establish clinical competence or replace a preceptor’s observation and the facility’s formal sign-off process.
Clinical case logs and attendance in the same place
School / Program plans and paid pilots include Clinicals. Instructors set up clinical sites and assign students. Students check in and out on server time, and record each case with its date, surgeon, procedure, specialty, and scrub role. Instructors approve, return with comments, reclassify, or void each record with a reason, and every revision is kept.
Approved cases count toward the 120-case requirement in AST’s Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology (7th edition), including its first-scrub minimums. The dashboard, printable report, and CSV export use the same count. Location is checked only at each punch against the site’s boundary, and raw coordinates are not stored; a reading outside the boundary is sent to an instructor for review.
At the end of a shift the student hands their phone to the preceptor, who confirms the cases and shift and signs, with no account or email. Preceptors can also rate the student’s performance the same way, and instructors complete faculty evaluations signed by both the instructor and the student. How Academy’s clinical tracking works.
Use it through an orientation block
- Choose the case cards and checklists relevant to the learner’s rotation.
- Ask the learner to review the case and practice the sequences before the shift.
- Use progress information to guide a brief pre-case discussion.
- Debrief after supervised practice and record the next learning priority.
Try a paid program pilot
The eight-week pilot costs $500 for up to 20 learners and two educators, with a setup session and end-of-pilot review. The fee is credited toward your first annual program agreement. See the homepage for current pricing and terms.
Frequently asked questions
Is Academy an accredited surgical technology program?
No. It is software that supports training and study. It does not confer accreditation, certification, or continuing education credit.
Does a dashboard replace competency sign-off?
No. Educators and clinical preceptors remain responsible for observation, assessment, and sign-off under their organization’s policies.
Does Academy verify that a student met the clinical case requirement?
No. Academy keeps the case records and counts approved cases toward the requirement; your program director remains responsible for verifying completion and can record that verification in Academy with a signature. Academy is independent of AST, ARC/STSA, and NBSTSA and does not report to them on your behalf.
